FAMU Way Collects APWA Florida Honor
FAMU Way, a project completed by Halff Associates, Inc. (Halff) on behalf of the City of Tallahassee, has earned an award from APWA Florida in the Transportation Greater than $25 million category.
Planning for FAMU Way began in March 2007, and Phase 3 opened to the public in April 2021. The pristine and innovative corridor creates a seamless connection between Florida State University and Florida A&M University, eases traffic congestion and connects neighborhoods to other parts of the city. It also facilitates economic opportunity, impacts social growth and provides facilities for citizens to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle.
Complex planning took place to combine existing infrastructure with the planned design.
FAMU Way includes four aesthetic and functional roundabouts, wide sidewalks, a multiuse trail, multiple community gathering places, a children’s playground, on-street parking, high-quality landscaping and hardscape, and much more. It’s an exceptional example of holistic design through collaboration with a diversity of stakeholders.
FAMU Way has won numerous awards including most recently being named the Yearbook Achievement Awards Summit Award winner by Civil + Structural Engineer magazine.
