Halff’s Bucchin to Attend White House Summit on Building Climate Resilient Communities

AUSTIN, Texas — Halff Planning and Landscape Architecture Deputy Practice Leader Matt Bucchin, AICP, LEED Green Associate, will attend the White House Summit on Building Climate Resilient Communities on Thursday, Sept. 28. The event, which will be livestreamed, is scheduled from 12:45 p.m. ET until 3:15 p.m. ET.

The summit, announced by President Joe Biden earlier this summer, will bring together local, state, tribal and territorial leaders and practitioners focused on climate resilience. The summit will explore opportunities to develop effective climate resilience strategies that are locally tailored and community-driven, with the aim of building communities that are not only resilient to the impacts of a changing climate but also safer, more equitable and economically stronger. Representatives of the White House and federal agencies will attend the summit.

Halff Planning and Landscape Architecture Deputy Practice Leader Matt Bucchin will join other thought leaders Thursday, Sept. 28 at the White House Summit on Building Climate Resilient Communities.

Based out Halff’s Austin office, Bucchin has more than 27 years of public and private sector experience at the city, state and special district levels of government. In the last 12 years, Bucchin has worked as a planning consultant and project manager on comprehensive, park, environmental, corridor, active transportation and downtown master planning processes and zoning and land development code projects.

Bucchin also leads Halff’s intelligent infrastructure initiative, working with technology specialists from across the company to advance technology-related projects in connected and autonomous vehicle technologies, intelligent transportation systems, information communication technologies, machine learning and artificial intelligence, asset management, cybersecurity and more.

Beyond his primary job duties, Bucchin has taken on leadership roles for several American Planning Association (APA) initiatives, including serving as the past chair of APA’s Sustainable Communities Division. He co-authored APA’s 2022 Climate Mitigation and Adaptation PAS Report (#601) and was a contributing author and editor for APA’s Climate Change Policy Guide (2020) and the Rebuilding America Green Infrastructure Sub-Task Force Report (2011). Bucchin currently leads the Environment and Healthy Communities subcommittee for APA Texas’ legislative and policy efforts and frequently contributes as part of an advisory subgroup on communities to the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Cities and Communities Working Group.
