ASCE Houston Recognizes Johnny Kim as Young Engineer of the Year

HOUSTON — Johnny Kim, PE, a team leader in Water Resources at Halff, has been recognized by the Houston chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as the 2024 Young Engineer of the Year.

Kim joined Halff as an engineer-in-training in 2016 and has steadily progressed, becoming a project manager in 2020 and a team leader in 2022.

He serves as project manager for the City of Houston’s Stormwater Infrastructure Model for the Sims Bayou watershed, encompassing more than 250 miles of modeled storm sewer.

Halff Houston Water Resources Team Leader Johnny Kim was recognized as the Houston ASCE branch Young Engineer of the Year. 

His expertise extends to urban drainage studies, neighborhood drainage improvements, riverine modeling and flood warning systems. He also reviews drainage analyses for public entities in the greater Houston area.

Demonstrating a commitment to professional development and leadership, Kim has served on the ASCE Houston Branch board since 2018 and is currently president-elect. He is also actively involved with the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA).

A Houston native, he earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and his master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
