Halff Austin, Richardson Participate in PARK(ing) Day 2016
PARK(ing) Day (www.parkingday.org) is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers, and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat. This year’s event was on Friday, September 16. Staff from our Austin and Richardson offices participated.
The Austin office’s exhibit, which was constructed from used and recycled materials, showcased their exhibit on Main Street in downtown Round Rock. Staff members were there all day to demonstrate the “heat island effect” and talk about exciting green space projects currently on Round Rock’s drawing board.
The Richardson office joined up with the North Central Section of APA Texas in a spot on Main Street in Dallas. Their goal was to promote active, healthy transportation, and if you stopped by, you would see Bud Melton making bicycle-powered smoothies! He estimates that they gave out about 200 4-oz. smoothies.
