Fatimah Honored as 2024 TSPE Preston Trail Chapter Young Engineer of the Year

RICHARDSON, Texas — Halff Water Resources Team Leader Waqar Fatimah, PE, CFM, was recognized as the 2024 Young Engineer of the Year by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) Preston Trail Chapter.

Joining Halff in 2016 as an engineer-in-training, Waqar has demonstrated remarkable growth during her career, progressing to the role of project manager before her current position as team leader in the Water Resources practice.

Dedicated to delivering technical excellence, Waqar emphasizes a collaborative approach, showing empathy for the unique needs of each team member and client. As a team leader, she oversees the daily activities of her team, ensures effective collaboration among team members, maintains client relationships and manages projects for federal, public and private sector clients.

Waqar serves as the Work Package 1 Task Lead Production Manager for all Compass base-level engineering within FEMA Region 6. Her expertise extends to hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and mapping software, encompassing both steady-state and unsteady 1D/2D modeling for riverine and urban floodplain determination and mitigation. She has successfully managed large-scale Base Level Engineering Projects, FEMA-related initiatives, site development feasibility studies, citywide master plans and capital improvement plans.

Waqar earned her bachelor’s in civil engineering from the NED University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan and holds a master’s in civil engineering from Texas A&M University. She maintains professional licensure in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas and is also a certified floodplain manager.

As an active member of the TSPE Preston Trail Chapter, she served as state director – first year and scholarship chair. Waqar also actively participates in the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA).

Beyond her engineering pursuits, she actively contributes to the development of future engineers and her community by committing to mentorship and guiding young engineers in accelerating knowledge, skills and abilities development.
