FAMU Way Phase IV Earns ASCE Tallahassee Branch Project of the Year

March 12, 2024

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — FAMU Way Phase IV, a Halff project for the City of Tallahassee, earned 2024 Project of the Year from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Tallahassee Branch.

The FAMU Way project provides a safe gateway for motorists, pedestrians and other corridor users while upgrading underground utilities to address aging infrastructure. Roadway improvements include the addition of curbs, gutters, drainage, sidewalks, landscape improvements, street lighting and an urban roundabout design at the intersection of FAMU Way and South Adams Street.

This phase of the FAMU Way corridor will continue the boulevard-style typical section established by the other phases of the roadway, expanding the slate of multi-modal transportation options within the city. Halff has designed and engineered the corridor since its conception, starting with the original master planning and progressing to full civil and landscaping design for multiple phases.

This is the first time FAMU Way has won an award for Phase IV. Overall, the project has collected six project recognitions including two American Public Works Association (APWA) Big Bend Chapter Project of the Year Awards, the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) National Recognition Award, the ACEC Florida Chapter Engineering Excellence Gold, the Yearbook of Engineering Achievement (YEA) Summit Award and the YEA Achievement Award for Transportation.
